PhD Student Akshita Gupta Earns Runner-Up at HOBI Education Day

Akshita Gupta, a PhD student at our lab, earned the runner-up position in the highly competitive poster competition during Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics (HOBI) Education Day. Gupta’s poster, titled “Automated Pipeline for Peritubular Capillary Inflammation Scoring,” showcased her pioneering work in kidney transplantation research.

In collaboration with her colleagues, Gupta developed an automated pipeline designed to quantify peritubular capillary inflammation, a critical marker in antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) following kidney transplants. Her approach leverages dual immunostaining techniques to identify and analyze endothelial cells and leukocytes, significantly enhancing the speed and accuracy of scoring. The new method proved to be four times faster than traditional manual scoring, offering a substantial improvement in efficiency.

Gupta’s research not only demonstrates a significant technological advancement in the field of transplant medicine but also earned her recognition as one of the top contributors in the HOBI Education Day event. Her achievement underscores the impactful work being done at the CMI Lab and its potential to transform clinical practices in kidney transplantation.
