FUSION (Functional Unit State Identification for WSI) is a powerful tool designed to integrate whole slide images (WSIs) with spatial omics data in order to jointly analyze tissue morphology and molecular composition. It is a set of plugins that expand the capabilities of the Digital Slide Archive (DSA) to comprise an integrated histopathomics and spatial transcriptomics analysis pipeline.
FUSION 1.0 focuses on kidney whole slide images (WSIs) with 10x Visium data whereas aim of FUSION 2.0 is to expand the scope to multi-organs and multi-omics. Overall, FUSION is a scalable, interoperable, and biologically interpretable tool for characterizing cell-state heterogeneity, tissue niches, and structure-function relationships across disease conditions.
